Tulane QB Nick Montana spikes ball on fourth down (Video)
Down 13-3 to UCF late in the first half, Tulane regained possession with 2:18 to go in the first half and was hoping to close the gap before halftime. What senior quarterback Nick Montana did was probably not in the Green Wave’s plans.
After a handful of runs and a few completions, Montana led the Green Wave down to the UCF 36-yard line, but the team burned its final timeout with 17 seconds to go before a third-and-six play. On the ensuing third down play, Montana, the son of San Francisco 49ers legend Joe Montana, found wideout Teddy Veal for five yards, but Veal could not get out of bounds.
It was now fourth-and-one and the clock was quickly ticking down. Montana apparently had no idea what down it was, because he did this:
Yep. He spiked the ball on fourth down, resulting in a turnover on downs.
You can’t do that, Nick!
Instead of possibly hustling the field goal unit out onto the field, Tulane ended the half with no points and ended up losing 20-13 to drop to 2-5 on the season.
